Canada Day Celebrations in Metro Vancouver
HAPPY 150TH BIRTHDAY, CANADA! Lonely Planet named Canada its number one country to visit in 2017, and I’m sure we all know why. There are tons of events coming up this long weekend in Metro Vancouver. Let’s all come together to show our pride and national spirit!
Canada Day at Canada Place
This award-winning event is the largest Canada Day celebration outside our nation’s capital. We are celebrating for two days (July 1 & 2) this year to commemorate 150 years of Confederation! There will be free outdoor concerts, kids zones, fireworks and tons more!
Canada Day Vancouver Fireworks
Best places to watch the evening fireworks on Canada Day are along the water in Coal Harbour, near Convention Centre, or along the seawall between the Convention Centre and the Vancouver-facing side of Stanley Park. In addition, the fireworks can be seen from North Vancouver, including Lonsdale Quay, the pier by Shipbuilder’s Square and Waterfront Park.
Free Canada150 Day Parade
As the grand finale for the two-day celebration, don’t forget to join the Canada150 parade on July 2. This free community parade will feature more than 60 dynamic entries and recognizes diversity and multiculturalism. The parade starts at the corner of Georgia and Broughton Streets, runs eastbound along Georgia, proceeding north down Burrard Street and ending at West Pender.
Canada Day at Granville Island
Granville Island is bursting at the seams with culturally diverse national pride! Create your own beadwork, eat donuts, stroll the artisan markets, join the “Under the Bridge” party, get your face painted and tons more!
Canada Day at East Van Community Centres
The Sunset Community Centre is hosting free entertainment and activities – including face painting, music, rides and dance performances – on Main & 52nd between noon and 4 pm on Saturday.
The Britannia Community Centre is planning a free Canada Day event at Grandview Park between 12:30 pm and 3 pm. Expect live bands, community booths, face painting, kids crafts, a giant inflatable slide and more.
Finally, the Kensington Community Centre will be hosting a Canada Day celebration with family-friendly activities. There will be another family-friendly event at Renfrew Park, including music, games, crafts and carnival food.
