About Area

Located on the Northeastern corner of Vancouver, Sunrise is one of the city’s oldest neighborhoods. Also known as the The East Village, it is primarily a residential area populated with single family detached dwellings, 4 story condos flanking Nanaimo and a dense strip of commercial and retail units along Hastings Street. More recently the area has been home to an influx of young professionals, artists and tradespeople creating a very mixed cultural influence. This community is growing younger! With views to Burrard Inlet and substantial schools and parkland, the area has been very attractive to growing families. The Hastings Elementary school catchment is a popular destination for parents wanting a French Immersion program. Many heritage homes still retain their glory in the area and the quiet tree-lined streets have a very charming community feel. Check out the old growth trees on Cambridge – wow! We see a lot of larger homes here and many families subsidizing mortgages with basement suites. Due to the RS-1 zoning nature of many of Hastings-Sunrise’s residential blocks, laneway homes are being built up in the area pretty quickly. New residents benefit from a changing Hastings Corridor with new condo buildings, rental spaces, hip eateries and retail amenities popping up each year.  Many of our clients talk about the lifestyle convenience of being at the crux of downtown, North Vancouver & Burnaby. No experience in the hood? Take your pup for a walk at New Brighton Park near the second narrows for a look at this dynamic neighborhood. It’s really a special gem not ruined by popularity…yet.
